Greetings in the name of the Creator or Creation. Love and blessings from Her who is wisdom beyond any of our seriously inadequate ken. May tidal waves of plant intelligence and medicine wash through you, dear dear traveler if that be your desire, wish or need. May holy foolishness and divine play be part of this day and every day after. May the angels, the watchers, the orisha, the ancestors and all the guides bless you this harvest season.
Today I want to make a simple suggestion for you to try at home, because what is a newsletter about magical, esoteric, and alchemical experimentation without experiments to try at home?
I want you to start a magical order in your neighborhood. Think of it like a neighborhood watch, but for the weird.
I am deadly serious and earnest in this. Think about it friends, you've been putting your lil candles and shrines out during these blue moons, strange nights full of energy and ase, as this fascist creep and shadow tries to extinguish our light one last time.
You have seen those other folks, with light in their eyes, who have passed your home, garden or windows, they may have even commented on how nice your setup is, have asked you about the tarot deck on your desk. The ones for whom you send witchy memes too late at night. Those folks.
It raises questions that leave me facing my lone wolf nature.
Why are you such a solitary practitioner beloved? Have you ever asked yourself why esoteric sovereignty is something you are so afraid to wield? Why do I balk at sharing the little things the Cosmos gave you to connect to the Divine. One must ask themselves in times such as these: are these truly private spiritual discoveries, or is the outpouring you are experiencing better suited to community?
This is why I am suggesting we start neighborhood magical or esoteric orders. Lil orders for local matters. Lil bits of light to press against the shadow. Lil bits of the divine unborn potential vying for life, for life always reaches and pushes for more life.
Why not create an easy to access and lighthearted spiritual place once a month, if not every few weeks, or even when the Spirit’s moves you, to gather and compare notes. Notes on what else but wonder, the strange, the wild, the weird.
Maybe your notes become a neighborhood grimoire that you hand off to a new neighbor. Where you mark off the haunted houses, indigenous sites that aren't for you, local lore, and what herbs and medicines are there. Poor Richard’s almanac with less, ahem, Richard, so to speak.
Who better to scream at the moon together than your neighbors? Who else to weep at the stars with, to walk the area together in concentric circles and just let that good energy you have been building loose, to release the mystical world you are dragging behind you in all your loveliness? Who else wants to spread joy more than you in an area where you know hunger and pain?
Why aren't you creating community magical herb gardens with a small group of cunning fems and thems? Why arent we making alchemical CSA’s?
So why not start a small circle of maniacs like you? I mean what’s all the body paint for anyway? These are the questions I asked myself, so I ask them of you.
Also this is your official notice that a Sorcerers Notebook is back.
We will spend the next few weeks talking about how to gather these lil local orders, and why a bit of “good order” can even help the most chaotic practitioner. We will talk about the need for spiritual containers, how to create one that is wide enough that people from around your hood will come. We will take creating your own neighborhood order because this is the work.
See y'all later.
Love, liberation, and power to you all
