Travelers Tarot: Part 2
The Watchman, and the Candidate.
Greetings Beloved:
Welcome back to the Black Power and Black Magic/k. If you haven’t been following along lately we are introducing my new cartomancy system, or tarot card set The Travelers Tarot. For an explanation of some of the meaning and reasoning behind the set, you can check this post from earlier this week:
Today we will meet two more of the 12 Voices from the set, and read their draft explanations. But first I wanted to show you all my first proof sets arrived yesterday!
This is what the first few hundred sets will look like until I can raise capital to hire the artist I have in mind. The back of each card is adorned with a modified version of the coat of arms of St. Leonard, patron saint of political prisoners and liberty, and my namesake. I have changed the colors to match the trans flag.
Now to the two new voices you get to meet!
Once called the jailer The Watchman is now much happier in his new role. Assigned long ago to this plane to keep The Escaped Prisoner from ever leaving this world. After many years tending the locks on this world’s shadow in the form of the Prisoner, The Watchman realized the only one who wasn’t free in his view of justice was him.
He made a sorcerer’s pact with The Escaped Prisoner that they would be allies in this world up until the moment the circumstances of who they are and cosmic forces beyond their control pit them against each other as enemies. In exchange for allowing The Prisoner the freedom to roam the earth forever, and become a co-inheritor of all her treasures.
This way at the end of this world, their appointed day of battle, they would come together as one would meet a loved one, and use what their friendship and love had become to make the battle quick, with good form, and painless. The Watchman in exchange would be free to protect humanity, and the earth, or learn her secrets.
The watchman represents the need to get perspective, the power to stand over enemies with love, to break down systems, and the wise elder in us all. We have a deep desire to make a spiritual covenant with one another. To know the people around us are with us, even if we don’t see the world the same way. We have a need to know those around us are working towards the same goals of love, liberation, freedom, justice, equity, and growth. Even a sorcerer’s pact that ends in a good death is better than never facing one’s self and one’s shadows in this world.
The Watchman is about believing your magic/kal journey, your power, your story is here on this earth to do more than daily toil of pushing back against hatred, oppression, and evil. You are also meant to be living a life that makes that work joyful. Our destinies are the third act in a long story. One still has to live their first and second act.
If with both his witness cards in a reading put your guard up, the enemy is at the gates. If paired with a world you want to travel to you enter at a time of peril.
The Candidate is here on this world interviewing for a job and role they aren't quite sure they want to accept. They are honored, and even willing to discern with the cosmos about this big important fate and the role they are to play in the never-ending work of creation. Also since The Candidate knows the universe is often sneaky, funny, and frankly pushy: they are smart enough to know that the invitation is not optional.
It’s not a question if they want to accept the work of creation, it’s a question of whether can they let go of all their broken yesterdays to help paint a better tomorrow. The Candidate is wise enough to know pain makes us who we are, but can also trap us in old identities, and roles, and limit our power. They are on the tail end of a very long journey through all 7 worlds and are now back here on earth with us to see if they want to move beyond these realms or accept the role of being something more, a messenger assigned to us who helps shape the destiny of worlds just like our own version of Earth.
The Candidate represents stepping into your power, role, and most importantly the position of the lifelong student/scholar. The lessons, challenges, or adversity before you right now is the universe's way of preparing you for full power and place in the living magic/kal cosmos. Are you paying attention? Are you ignoring the fight? Are you giving up on your dreams? Are you willing to accept they might be coming true? Are you willing to be questioned by the universe to see if you are ready? If with both their witness a time of spiritual testing lies ahead. Remember authenticity and honesty in all affairs. Paired with Home, or the Sanctuary world cards, great wisdom lies here and now.
